Bullying is when one person does something to purposely hurt another person. Such as if a student attacks another in the hallway, it can be either physical bullying or mental/emotional bullying. Emotional/mental bullying is probably worse than physical bullying. Physical bullying just leaves marks such as bruises, scars, but emotional/ mental bullying cuts deeper. It can change the way you feel, look at yourself, trust in others, your personality, and ruin your self confidence.
I think that people bully others because they want to feel better about themselves, or make others just feel terrible about themselves. Their home life might not be the greatest, they may not have enough confidence in themselves, so they feel they need to drag others down with them. Then again, people may just be cruel and do it for their own entertainment.
If more kids start going to adults or someone they trust if they are being bullied, then maybe the bullying rate would go down. But some kids don't want others to know about their bullying, they are often scared of what might happen to them if they do tell. If a teacher or an adult see a kid who's always sad or anything of that sort and just talk with them, or send them to the councilor. Or assign a student they trust to ask whats been going on. But that might back fire on the student for telling.
